AM I MY BROTHER'S KEEPER?

GENESIS 4:8-9 8 And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him.
9 And the Lord said unto Cain, Where is thy brother? And he said, I know not: Am I my brothers keeper?

Good question! If I ignore someone in a spiritual pit, without helping him out, am I just as guilty as if I would be if I did him harm? I think that's the only natural conclusion, if something could have been done to help direct a soul toward the light of Jesus and away from eternal torment.

Take a look at I Thessalonians 5:14 "Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort them that are feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men."

Does this mean that we are each others keepers? Let’s find out. The message gets even stronger when we read further into God’s Word.

Ezekiel 3:20 "Again, When a righteous man doth turn from his righteousness, and commit iniquity, and I lay a stumblingblock before him, he shall die: because thou hast not given him warning, he shall die in his sin, and his righteousness which he hath done shall not be remembered; but his blood will I require at thine hand.

Wow! Is that to the point or what?!? Don't stop now, let's keep going.

Ezekiel 33:7 "So thou, 0 son of man, I have set thee a watchman unto the house of Israel; therefore thou shalt hear the word at my mouth, and warn them from me."

This denotes a Holy duty from our God. To ignore it or to be out of the will of God in any way is very dangerous to your souls wellbeing. Do you want to take that chance? Love your brothers and sisters and be a help to them in times of need. I pray that God makes me more sensitive to my brothers and sisters feelings and needs than I have been in the past. Have you ever noticed that when you pour out the Love of God freely upon someone, your pail never gets empty? It seems that the more you pour out, the faster it gets replaced and God will give you a bigger pail, still running over. So, not only is it a duty to be your brothers keeper, it's a great joy as well because God is a rewarder of His children that faithfully do His will.

There is an essential tool for help in this commision. Prayer. We should all pray for a repentant heart for the unruly and the backsliden so that they will see the folly of being out of the will of God and that The Lord will bring them gently back into salvation. What a joyfull day when a sinner becomes a Blood Bought Saint of The Living God! Amen!
